Barn Wedding, Prince Edward County

There is no Barn Wedding in Prince Edward County, quite like one at Fields on West Lake. The charm that this place bring to any barn wedding is outstanding and Mark and Lynn are such amazing hosts.

I had a chance to chat with Tom and Steph about their experience planning a Prince Edward County Barn wedding and they had some amazing insight to share!

Why did you choose to have a Prince Edward County wedding?

  • Steph grew up in Ottawa and Tom in Toronto so it was halfway for both sides of the family. We joked that we made the wedding equally inconvenient for everyone but in truth Prince Edward County is a beautiful place that we’ve fallen in love with over the last couple of years. It’s full of amazing food, nature and arts.

What was your favourite moment at your wedding day?

  • Steph: hard to say for sure as I loved the whole day, but probably walking back up the aisle, hand-in-hand, as husband and wife
  • Tom: In typical Tom fashion, I can’t pick one single favourite moment from the wedding. There were a thousand little moments that made me smile. Looking around the room at various points in the night and seeing everyone having a great time was amazing, and made the months of planning worth every second of it!

Read more below about Tom & Steph’s wedding and what vendors they used.

What vendors did you use for your wedding and what was it like working with them?

  • Food (Dinner buffet): Bustinis Catering from Kingston, Ontario.  Justin was fantastic to work with, he made the menu selection easy to sort out and the food delicious.  His staff were professional and courteous.
  • Flowers: Steph’s sister-in-law Shannon and friend, Misha White, did all of the flowers for the ceremony, reception, bouquets and boutonnieres. Her work was incredible as seen from the photos. We owe a lot of credit to her for making the venue shine the way it did.
  • Hair: Jazz hair studios in Belleville. Steph, the bridesmaids and the mothers went into Belleville and had hair and makeup completed at Jazz hair studios.  Marc from Jazz was very accommodating and even brought the group fresh croissants and mimosas.
  • Makeup: Mauro-Jo set up her makeup station in the hair salon and got the bride and bridesmaids ready. Her work suited every girls’ personality to a tee!
  • Venue: Fields on West Lake. Mark and Lynne were the perfect hosts for a perfect day. We couldn’t have been happier with how flawlessly the day unfolded. Mark, Lynne and their team managed the day seamlessly. From timing, to moving decorations from the ceremony space to the reception unnoticed, to bartending and more. We received numerous compliments on the venue and are so happy we selected Fields on West Lake for our Barn Wedding. We would recommend Fields on West Lake to anyone looking in that area. And the weather held out too!
  • Photography: Cait Lavoie!   You captured all of the moments we wanted you to. We loved the sneak peek photos and the group shot turned out great! We received numerous compliments on your photography style, and that you fit in well with everyone. You were discrete throughout the night and yet still around capturing all of our special moments. And thank you for helping put on the boutonnieres!

Where was your dress/suit from?

  • Dress: Avenue 22 – a bridal store in Toronto.  The dress is made by a Toronto designer. The bridesmaid dresses were from David’s Bridal.
  • Suit: Indochino – with locations in Ottawa and Toronto, it was easy for Tom and all groomsmen to get measured up and outfitted locally in their hometown. One exception was that one of the groomsmen is from Australia so he ordered his suit online from Indochino by sending them his measurements, but it turned out great!

Any advice for couples planning a wedding in Prince Edward County?

  • You are getting married in such a beautiful area, enjoy it and be proud of it!
  • Find local vendors who know your venue already (many venues will supply a list of vendors they like to work with use that list!). It really helps with the process and adds comfort in knowing that you have experienced people helping you out.
  • Take a few trips down to the county before your wedding to enjoy all the county has to offer. Tie in your trips with visits to your vendors to sort out wedding details and make sure to plan time to enjoy some wineries, go on a few hikes and explore the area.  It’ll give you an even greater appreciation for the region and all that it has to offer.
  • Reach out to other couples who have had a Prince Edward County wedding to get advice. We are more than happy to talk to anyone considering a Prince Edward County wedding. Please reach out to us if you have any questions.
